Pre-op needs nature
I recently had to undergo a medical procedure, only something small but still I was nervous.
In a cubicle on my own waiting for the call to go to the operating theatre – I was just sitting there behind a drawn curtain, bare walls, a trolley, a couple of bits of medical equipment to look at, in one of those unattractive gowns, hearing the bustle of efficient hard working nurses outside not knowing how long it would be and I got caught up in my thoughts, my mind was flitting. I was telling myself to keep calm to breathe but feeling anxious. heart thumping feeling nauseous, blood pressure up, not a good state to go into an op. – the clinical emptiness around me gave me nothing to focus on so my mind went racing…
Images of nature in that pre-op cubicle would have made a massive difference. Studies show what a lot of us instinctively know, nature helps to relieves stress and anxiety.
Just imagine, scenes of nature on a wall big enough to immerse yourself in, views of countryside or coast wouldn’t they be good to look at? Aesthetic interest AND a proven calming effect on patients – not to mention the hard working staff.
All medical environments
And it’s not only not only in pre-op situations but in any medical situation there’s bound to be somebody who’s anxious who’s nervous whether it’s them or a loved one undergoing medical treatment.
We need scenes of nature in the medical world, they should be everywhere – for anyone either undergoing a procedure, waiting for one, for results or waiting for news of a loved one should all have nature to look at.
If you are in the medical field whether you be doctor nurse dentist GP, those in management and responsible for the decor please consider having scenes nature in your environment.
Scenes of nature aid medical recovery!
Not only do scene of nature help reduce stress, which can complicate procedures, it will also reduce the recovery time and therefore time occupying a bed.
As far backas 1984 studies show that a a view of nature through a window reduced recovery time and the need for medication – huge cost savings
But not every bed can have a view out of the window, so here’s one alternative.
Well-being Wallpaper
Printed on a single sheet of paper, so no joins, and with silicon used around the edges there’s nowhere for bacteria to gather.
The paper it is printed on is durable, fire retardant and wipeable so it’s easy to keep clean.
I believe it will improve the wellbeing of patients and their loved ones not to mention the staff, and it will reduce recovery time which will have a knock on of improving the institution’s bottom line.
